Looking to the Future: Firelight’s Feature Complete Launch

While Firelight Protocol has not yet launched, we’re excited to share our vision for how the protocol will evolve from its planned initial launch vault to a comprehensive, feature-complete version that will reshape how economic security is provided and consumed in DeFi. This evolution will introduce a sophisticated multi-vault architecture that enables unprecedented flexibility for stakers while creating opportunities for economic security services (ESSes) to secure their DeFi applications. In addition, we’ll move beyond our initial focus on XRP to open the doors for a broader ecosystem of staked assets.

ESSes will be able to lease economic security for their DeFi use cases. Whether securing insurance protocols, oracle networks, or cross-chain bridges, these services require economic guarantees backed by staked collateral. Staked collateral provides the economic guarantees required for these applications, acting as a backstop in the event of economic loss. Meanwhile, operators will interact with multiple vaults, each of which can be selected by ESSes for their security needs. Operators earn a share of the fees paid by ESSes, with the remaining portion distributed to stakers. Stakers, in turn, have the freedom to customize their strategy and choose which vaults that they would like to deploy capital to.

The result is a flexible and efficient marketplace for on-demand economic guarantees, designed to meet the diverse needs of all participants. To provide greater clarity, we’re outlining the mechanics and benefits of the feature-complete launch of the protocol.

Balancing Risk and Reward Ratios Across Vaults

Staked assets will be actively deployed to provide economic guarantees, with yield directly tied to protocol fees. Stakers have the flexibility to manage their slashing exposure by selecting specific vaults, allowing them to diversify risk across various opportunities.

Vaults can secure multiple ESSes, with slashing conditions determined individually by the ESS. As slashing is implemented on an ESS-specific basis, all penalties incurred will affect connected vaults, and the performance of all other vaults will not be impacted.

This design empowers stakers to control their risk-reward ratio by choosing vaults based on their preferred balance of fees and slashing risk. More detailed information about slashing on Firelight can be found in this article.

How Are LSTs Issued?

Each vault in Firelight issues its own unique Liquid Staking Token (LST), which represents a proportional share of the staker’s assets in that specific vault. When stakers deploy assets, they receive LSTs in return, with each token tied to the performance and risk of the vault it originates from. For example, a vault securing service ‘A’ would issue $aXRP, while another securing service ‘B’ would issue $bXRP. Each LST will maintain its own independent price.

This design enables stakers to implement a highly customized strategy that can balance risk and reward according to their own personal risk tolerance and desired return.

DeFi Integration and Capital Efficiency

In the feature complete version of the protocol, DeFi integrations can be customized to reflect slashing exposure of each LST. This optimizes the risk-adjusted liquidity efficiency.

Certain LSTs may be actively traded on secondary markets (DEXs/CEXs), whereas others may be used as collateral. The choice of how to deploy these LSTs across different DeFi strategies remains entirely with the holder, providing flexibility portfolio management.

Firelight’s feature-complete version represents a fundamental shift in traditional staking architecture. Our vision for this phase of the rollout of the protocol is unfolding, and final details will be unveiled as we approach the release.
